NH Ag Literacy Day March 17th 2010

NH Ag Literacy Day at Holy Trinity School  Students in kindergarten through second grade enjoyed a special guest reader this morning to celebrate NH Ag Literacy Day.  Jane Percy and Elaine Bonnette came into the classroom to share a wonderful story “Sugarbush Spring” by Marsha Wilson Chall. The story had wonderful illustrations and was donated to the school.  After hearing the story, the students test tasted maple sap and maple syrup. There were many exciting learning connections made by students with this project.  Yesterday, the Pre K and Kindergarten students went to Prescott Farms to visit a real sugar house while the sap tasted by all came from Tristan MacDonald’s (HTS second grade student) local farm. After tasting the sap a second grader Robert Bolduc said "It tastes like water but with a sweet aftertaste."  Most students enjoyed the farm-made maple syrup.  The NH Ag in the classroom program provides opportunities for students to foster awareness, understanding and appreciation of agriculture through science and literacy. All involved enjoy this “sweet” learning treat.

NH Ag in the Classroom Becomes a NH Dept of Ag Committee

NHAITC is pleased to announce our confirmation as an official committee of the NH Department of Agriculture as of this year 2010. This means more support within the administration for the importance of our program and hopefully potential funding in the future.
